MATCHWEEK NINE - REVIEW
In the final round of fixtures before the Christmas break, #MatchweekNine turned out to be a brilliantly competitive week of fixtures in which two games were played.
Chesham United hosted Yate Town in which would be an entertaining 2-2 draw. Chesham took the lead in the first half through Callum Gerrard but the home side would find themselves 2-1 at half time after Yate came back with a penalty from Keane Ashwood and a goal from left back Deandre Hylton. Chesham equalised late on in the second half after they were awarded a penalty, which captain Josh Smith rifled home and honours were shared. A point for either side sees Chesham remain in seventh and Yate Town sit comfortably in fourth.
The other game to go ahead was a clash between Rushall Olympic and Sutton Coldfield Town, two teams at the business end of the table looing to finish the year on a high. The game also finished 2-2, and Sutton Coldfield will be frustrated with not hanging onto their two-goal lead in the first half. Abdul Adams and an own goal put the visitors 0-2 up before the break but Rushall got back in to the game with goals from Brad Fox and Louie Reynolds. The draw means Rushall sit in first position in the SLFA table on 11 points with Sutton Coldfield just behind them in third spot, on 10 points.
In the last game of 2019, there were a whole host of terrific performances with players trying to show off their talents before the break. Congratulations to all those nominated by their coaches and selected for ‘Team of the Week’ and a special mention to Chesham United student Josh Smith whose performances in #MatchweekNine earned him the title of ‘Player of the Week’.
