In #MatchweekTwelve of the SLFA, four teams were in action in what was an enthralling couple of matches.

In what was both teams first game of 2020, Rushall Olympic hosted Frome Town in a nail biting game. Rushall claimed all three points with a 3-1 victory but the win wasn’t as straight forward as the scoreline shows. Frome Town were leading until the 89th minute thanks to a first half goal from Sean Wynne, but a late equaliser from Josh Sivorn and a winner from Josh Howard just a minute after going level. Sivorn also converted a penalty in the dying seconds of the game to seal the win for his side. In the other fixture, first place Sutton Coldfield Town travelled to third place Kidlington in search of three points to widen the gap at the top of the table. This was another exciting game that went right down to the wire and neither team could be seperated, with the game ending in a 2-2 draw. Sutton Coldfield Town lead for the majority of the game after Ethan Pearce put the visitors ahead in the first half and Lewis Brady doubled their lead in the second half after slotting home a penalty. Kidlington never gave up and were causing problems for Sutton Coldfield Town. Joe Langdon gave Kidlington a life line as he blasted home an indirect free kick from inside the Sutton penalty box with less than 10 minutes of regulation time left. Deep into injury time, Kidlington were still pushing for an equaliser and they found it when defender Alex Neale came up from the back for a free kick and managed to bundle the ball into the Sutton Coldfield Town goal after the ball was unsuccessfully cleared.

With four teams in action on Wednesday, it means we can bring you the first SLFA #TeamOfTheWeek in 2020. Congratulations to all students who were nominated and selected by their coaches and a special mention to Rushall Olympics student Callum Parker, who has been awarded the title of ‘Player of the Week!’ for his performances in #MatchweekTwelve.
